Library Happenings

Hello Again!  Things have been very busy in the library this fall, hence the time from when I last posted.  Students have been very busy learning about Fiction, Nonfiction, Genres, Reference Books, and Research.  One of our most interesting studies was last week with the fifth graders.  We researched and discussed the history of Halloween and where our modern Halloween traditions come from.  A major point of discussion was to understand and be able to articulate why some people choose NOT to celebrate Halloween.  As a whole, we came to a better understanding of both sides of the issue AND learned to celebrate our differences, value others' opinions, and not to alienate others because of their beliefs.  Our second graders recently made Story Stew.  They thoroughly enjoyed mixing the ingredients of a fiction story together to see how an author creates his/her story.  These ingredients include: characters, setting, problem and solution.  Books are flying off the shelves, the iPad cart is being utilized by classrooms and we just received a subscription to Big Universe from the Cleveland City Schools.  This is a great website where students can write, illustrate and publish their own stories, as well as, read other students' stories.  So many great things happening this fall.  See you in the Library!
